Woelck, Peter

Peter Woelck (1948-2010) was invited by Arno Fischer and Sibylle Bergemann into the Club Junger Meister (Young Masters Club) in 1968. He then studied photography in Leipzig and became active as a freelancer for various magazines, editors and cultural institutions in East Germany before settling in Berlin. Woelck increasingly struggled to find work as a photographer after the reunification of Germany; he designed ads for small businesses and occasionally sold copies of his photos to tourists. In 2007, Peter Richter wrote an article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung stating: “Peter Woelck has made pictures that are so good – the man ought to become famous!”
