Arno Fischer (1927-2011) was a German photographer and university professor. Having studied sculpture from 1947 to 1953 in both East and West Berlin, Fischer turned to photography as the medium of his artistic expression. Reflecting upon the city’s division, Berlin was the central theme in his early works. As a photographer and publisher for the magazine Sibylle – Zeitschrift für Mode und Kultur (Magazine for fashion and culture) amongst others, Fischer was one of the leading photographers of the GDR. He was a lecturer of photography at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, Fachhochschule Dortmund, Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie, Berlin, as well as a professor at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB), Leipzig.
