Eckelt, Werner

Werner Eckelt (1914-1990) was a german photographer and photojournalist. Trained as painter and graphic designer at Schule Reimann Berlin (1932-38), Eckelt started in the 1930ies to document the various facets of Berlin with his camera. After returning from captivity as a war prisoner, Eckelt became a professional photojournalist, capturing the scenes of destruction in post-war Berlin and later working for newspapers like Berliner Morgenpost, Welt am Sonntag and Tagesspiegel. He worked together with artist André Masson and portrayed the musicians Yehudi Menuhin, Daniel Barenboim, Stefan Askenase and Gidon Kremer.
